Increased ethane supply on the back of the US shale-gas boom is propelling forward a huge raft of potential very large ethane carrier (VLEC) newbuilding orders as the new volumes stimulate Asian demand.
Industry sources say Navigator Gas has approached shipyards with a requirement for up to eight VLECs. The company is said to be seeking at least six firm vessels with two optional berth slots that it wants to supply to Thai state energy outfit PTT.
