The North Sea spot market has moved from famine to feast over the course of the past week, proving yet again the area’s extreme volatility, with vessel rates for anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) jumping as high as NOK 2m ($324,350) per day.
Although the heady AHTS spot market is a lucrative spike for owners, the day rates represent a much-needed respite after months of fixing expensive ships at below break-even costs.
