DVB Group’s research division is upbeat about the offshore market for floaters but warns that operators may have to go through some short-term pain before realising financial gains.

The transport bank is predicting a difficult run for floaters — which include semi-submersibles and drillships — from now into 2015, with lower utilisation rates due to an oversupply of tonnage.

But the medium and longer-term prospects appear good, with demand for deepwater offshore drilling remaining strong on the back of continued high oil prices.
