At a Tokyo press conference outlining the structure of the new company, president Kensuke Namura said the two partners’ business and design departments would be merged. They also plan to jointly procure main machinery parts.
The idea is to improve the cost efficiency of the two outfits and strengthen their design, development and engineering capability to the extent that it ensures both survive in an age of “overcompletion” in the shipbuilding business, Imari-based Namura says.
