The story “Marsh sets its sights on Arctic shipping market” (TradeWinds 22 August, page 26) has a reference to Nordic Bulk Carriers’ 75,000-dwt Nordic Orion (built 2011) and its September 2013 Northwest Passage [NWP] expedition from Vancouver to Finland.
Your report, however, like so many others, avoids two vital issues: How much was the extra insurance (EI) premium for the trip? And, was the vessel’s 37-day visit to a Polish shipyard last December/January for ice-damage repairs?
There is speculation that the EI was about $100,000.
