South Korea’s Kogas today was due to pre-qualify shipowners who are eligible to bid for its six LNG newbuildings.
Domestic owners had to submit their initial applications on the vessels to the state utility by yesterday but the tender is not open to foreign companies.
Korean brokers suggest that up to 10 companies — only around half of which have previous LNG shipping experience — could be selected to bid on the ships.
