According to port officials at Paradip, Odisha wants to get rid of the 38,000-dwt, Mongolia-flag bulker Black Rose (built 1977).
The ship is partially submerged off a beach near Paradip after sinking while carrying a cargo of iron ore in 2009. Officials say the district administration of Jagatsingpur has now sought High Court intervention to clear the vessel for auction — a move stalled in 2011 after social organisations raised objections in the court over the award of a salvage contract to US-based Resolve Marine Group.
