Shipbuilders are reporting a lack of LNG newbuilding enquiries for vessels sought by Gail (India) in the company’s recent newbuilding tender.
Yard sources say they are not receiving requests for price quotations from shipowners, with some informing them that they do not wish to be involved in the business.
They cite the specification that at least three newbuildings, potentially one in each grouping of three, must be constructed in an Indian shipyard as the key factor that is deterring owners from taking part.
