Maritime communications company Setel is looking to expand with a system that uses a vessel’s existing cabling to create a ship-wide Internet-connected system.

The Power Line Communication (PLC) system works by injecting an Internet protocol (IP) signal into the existing copper cabling of a vessel so that the ship becomes its own computer-enabled local area network (LAN).

Companies like BP Shipping, Maersk Line, APL and Zodiac Maritime Agencies are already using the system developed by UK-based company FDN and supplied by Setel.
