The San Diego shipyard, a major builder of vessels that trade in the US cabotage trade, conceived the 49,500-dwt medium-range (MR) tanker to comply with Tier-III emissions standards.

It will use Man Diesel & Turbo’s electronically controlled gas-injection (ME-GI) engines, says vice-president and general manager Kevin Graney.

“We are in the process of marketing those now and we hope to get the contract here before too long,” he said at the TradeWinds Jones Act Shipping Forum.
