Sources closely linked to the shipping ministry tell TradeWinds that a draft proposal has been prepared to improve yards’ chances of securing business from state-owned companies.

Shipbuilders will not be required to fulfill the so-called “prior experience condition” when bidding for newbuilding contracts.

It means they will not have to show they have produced similar ships in the past.

Also, yards will enjoy a price preference of up to 10% above newbuilding offers submitted by foreign yards, and state-owned companies will be required to demonstrate a preference for local yards.
