Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI)’s losses in building two luxury cruiseships for Carnival Corp’s Aida Cruises have now ballooned to over $900m and the yard admits the project is delayed.
The latest declaration of losses is a further sign that the contract, intended to re-establish the Japanese shipbuilder in the export cruise market, is running into serious trouble and that the yard is struggling to meet the specialist demands of the sector.
