Maran Tankers closer to LNG fuel-ready VLCC

Greece’s Maran Tankers has moved a step closer to preparing one of its VLCC newbuildings for possible conversion to use LNG as fuel.

The Angelicoussis-controlled company in July placed a $391m order for four large crude tankers at DSME. The contract included an option to design the vessels so they could be converted to use LNG as fuel. This would potentially make them the first VLCCs switched to burn gas.
