Japan is preparing to fund improvements in environmental and safety standards at India’s beaching demolition yards just as Europe seems set to exclude them from a list of approved facilities.
A recent Japanese industry and government delegation to India went with the intention of sounding out local breaking yards on the best way of spending what is reported to be in the region of $180m in overseas development aid (ODA) earmarked for the country’s demolition facilities.
