When technology giant Apple was slapped with a $524m jury verdict for patent infringement last week, it issued a call for reform.
It argued that it lost to a company that makes no products, that has no employees and that has demanded, and won, payment for technology that Apple’s own employees spent years developing.
In short, the world’s largest company lost to what it characterised as a “patent troll”.
