Greek ferry operator Hellenic Seaways has arrested a ship of rival Anek in an unusually aggressive move by local standards that further highlights the financial strain the country’s coastal shipping sector is experiencing.

The 32,700-gt Olympic Champion (built 2000) was being held for a seventh day at the western Greek port of Patras as TradeWinds went to press. Hellenic Seaways made the move due to unpaid charter payments, Athens Stock Exchange-listed Anek said in a bourse filing without giving further details.
