Universe Maritime, the operating company of the 81,000-dwt crude tanker Prestige, which was involved in one of the most notorious maritime accidents of all time more than 12 years ago, has quietly wrapped up its business in Athens.
The company asked to be taken off Greece’s shipping register in November last year and the country’s merchant marine ministry granted the request a month later — the week before Christmas — official documents show.
