An LNG carrier has gone into a shipyard in Singapore to transform the vessel into a floating storage unit (FSU) that will serve as part of Malta’s first LNG import terminal.

Electronic data show the 125,877-cbm Wakaba Maru (built 1985) has been moved into Keppel Shipyard where it is listed as undergoing conversion.

The ship, now reportedly renamed as LNG Mediterrana, was sold to Bumi Armada Berhad by Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) earlier this year.
