Shipping is on the brink of a new era, with cyber-enabled technology set to drive radical change in the industry in as yet little-understood directions.
And while that has major implications for shipowners and operators, it is also likely to have a particular impact on class, in particular the way classification societies interact and help shape future shipping regulation.
That is the view of Chris Wiernicki, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) chairman who will head up the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) for the next year.
