Next year promises to be a quiet one on the newbuilding front for Grandweld Shipyards. Its 2016 order book, as of this month, stands at nine ships. The slowdown is not unexpected given the poor state of the offshore markets.

Grandweld deputy general manager Paul Friedberg expects the quiet period to continue for some time.

“People are not exactly falling over themselves to place newbuildings and I expect the market will be quite tough until 2018,” he told TradeWinds on a visit to the yard earlier this month.
