Problems in several key shipping markets are reason enough for concern, as has been the case for much of the past six months. But signals are intensifying that strain in key global markets is worsening, and that could have a big impact on shipping this year and next.

As the Baltic Dry Index slumped below the unprecedented record low of 400 points, and some boxships are earning just one-third of what they did a year ago, players in those markets face testing times.
