The Oshima-built, 47,000-dwt Spar Orion (built 1996) is now understood to have been sold to a Chinese buyer for further trading for $2.1m to $2.2m. The scrap value of the handymax is $1.9m.
Last week, Spar sold a similar ship, the 47,000-dwt bulker Spar Sirius (built 1996), to China for green recycling.
The company is one of the larger bulker owners in Norway with 27 ships trading, including this pair.
