The Netherlands has long been the centre of Europe’s salvage industry and its status has been boosted by an ongoing consolidation process and the formation of mega-salvors in the country.
Smit Salvage, Ardent, Mammoet and Multraship are some of the best-known names in the industry and all base their operations in Holland.
In a move that seemed to recognise the Netherlands as the region’s salvage hub, newly created Ardent Salvage, formed by the merger last year of Denmark’s Svitzer and US company Titan Salvage, chose Ijmuiden as its Northern European base.
