Some industry publications last year seemed to have overlooked or not taken notice of what I thought to be a most important date: the 70th anniversary of the end of the 20th century’s bloodiest military conflict in Europe. So, as we approach the next anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe, I decided to share my thoughts with the readers of TradeWinds in an attempt to rectify the oversight of last year and to pay tribute to the memory of the wartime generation — and specifically of the merchant sailors who had gone through unimaginable hardships and sufferings in the last great war.
