Delays are expected as shippers, liner operators and port terminals adapt to new container weight verification rules that are due to take effect on 1 July, say analysts and insurers.

The Global Shippers’ Forum (GSF) expressed concern at a recent meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), where it highlighted the need for countries to work together on uniform rules. Seperately, the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) warned that not all shipping and logistics companies, nor shippers, will be ready for this new resolution and this is likely to affect the cargo insurance sector in the short term.
