The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is to publish interim guidelines on protecting shipping from cyber attacks amid growing concerns over the threat to safety and security.
The regulatory clout of the IMO will also add to the increasing momentum behind the development of enhanced cyber security on ships.
The IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) meeting, which finished last week, recognised the potential exposure of shipping to hostile attempts to disturb or interfere with electronic systems.
