The Cruise Ship National Centre of Expertise, a Florida-based USCG offshoot set up to promote safety in the industry, indicates that many of the common unsafe practices on cruiseships are continuing despite efforts to improve following the Costa Concordia tragedy.

Yet the USCG body insists the industry is getting better.

“These five items are not all inclusive and in no way cover the entire scope of deficiencies found during foreign passenger vessel examinations,” said the USCG.
