Liner operators are wasting no time in opening services to Iran in the hope of cashing in on untapped demand.

The moves come in the wake of forecasts that Iran will experience a 250% increase in container capacity passing though its ports this spring, with 22 maritime services pushing up the volume from around one million teu in April last year, according to MDS Transmodal (MDST)

The increase comes just a few months after some international sanctions were lifted and shows that liner operators have tangible interest in serving the Iranian market, and its wider hinterland, more directly, MDST says.
