Nearly three years after opening investigations into 15 container shipping lines, the European Commission (EC) has adopted new pricing rules that change the way rates can be increased.

The most important difference is that lines will stop publishing and communicating general rate increases (GRIs) — usually an announcement of some several hundred dollars per container published on their website.

These are typically made three to five weeks before their intended implementation date, during which time some or all of the other carriers announce similar intended rate increases.
