BW Group’s decision to switch an LNG carrier order into a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) is a sign of the comparative health of a specialised sector of LNG shipping, which is being given fresh impetus with the emergence of new supplies of product.
The often cautious-to-move shipowner, which has already made its move into FSRUs with a pair of newbuildings, clearly prefers to have a speculative regas ship over another uncommitted LNG carrier in its arsenal.
