The pursuit of competitive efficiency has long been a driver of innovation in shipping — nowhere more so than in the boxship sector, where the mega-containerships over 13,000 teu have emerged as the main strategy to improve economies of scale.
The sector has also been one of the drivers in new hull forms. Most notably, Maersk Line’s Triple-E containerships initiated the ultra large containership (ULC) trend in the industry.
