CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest liner operator, is in talks aimed at outsourcing its global feeder operations to common feeder carriers, say liner shipping sources.

The move has implications for the charter market, where the French carrier has been redelivering large numbers of containerships back to their owners.

Some estimate that between 100 and 120 boxships in the 1,000 teu to 2,500/2,800-teu range could be returned to owners by CMA CGM as part of the development.
