The Pasha Group is running yards through a contest to win an order for up to four LNG-fuelled containerships to operate in the Jones Act trade between the US mainland and Hawaii.

The California conglomerate plans to place an order in November for two firm plus two options, chief executive George Pasha IV tells TradeWinds.

With the higher cost of building ships at American yards, the order could approach the $1bn mark if the company takes up both options.
