George Economou’s DryShips is throwing cold water on market rumours that the unidentified charterer with which it recently reworked contracts is actually a private Economou company.
A company spokesman also denies that there is any plan to take the New York-listed company private, despite its recent struggles both in the dry bulk and drilling sectors.
Ever since DryShips announced new terms with a “major” charterer on 22 July, rumours have circulated that the unidentified counterparty is Economou himself, through his private Classic Maritime outfit in Monaco.
