These are not easy times for forward freight agreement (FFA) brokers.

Several years in a row of dwindling commissions and lingering depressed dry cargo markets are making life tough.

“FFA brokers are suffering as much as anyone,” said Tasos Spiliopoulos, director of derivatives at SSY Futures.

“We are getting squeezed. And if this market continues, it could be a serious threat to our livelihood.”
