Japan’s largest steel mill, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp (NSSMC), is to deploy some of the 35-strong Valemax fleet on a consecutive voyage deal to import iron ore from Brazil.

The project is the clearest indication yet that not all of the growing Valemax fleet will be solely dedicated to the Brazil-China trade.

The NSSMC-Vale deal is based on a cost, insurance and freight (CIF) contract and involves a total of eight voyages between Brazil and the main NSSMC plant at Oita prefecture in Kyushu Island, Japan.
