Sources say the energy major has agreed to pay $1.5m per month, or $50,000 per day, for the vessel.
Brokers say it makes sense for an owner of just one ship to lock it into a period charter, while owners of larger fleets of VLGCs opt for spot employment.
Spot rates have fallen lately but are still at $70,000 per day.
