A trio of Japanese companies have announced plans to conduct a joint study in to ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering in Tokyo Bay.

The companies are trading house Sumitomo Corp, shipowner Uyeno Transtech and Yokohama-Kawasaki International Port Corp (YKIP).

“The three companies will jointly study the commercial feasibility of STS LNG bunkering services using LNG bunkering vessels, all the while remaining open to possible participation in such a business venture by LNG-related companies,” Sumitomo said in a statement.
