Singapore’s High Court has slashed a $6.6m damage claim filed against a Knutsen OAS Shipping LNG carrier by the Federated States of Micronesia to a mere $829,000.

The case stems from the April 2017 grounding of the 173,400-cbm Sevilla Knutsen (built 2010) on the west-facing leeward side of the Eauripik Reef.

The ruling is the first reported decision in Singapore involving the assessment of loss arising from damage to coral reefs caused by a ship.
