Veteran analyst Neil Dekker has been “banging on” about the supply-side fundamentals of the containership industry for years.

Dekker, a consultant at a new London-based container research desk of data solutions firm ClipperMaritime, points to the massive orderbook of 2.8 million teu.

Nearly two-thirds of that is made up of the largest containerships of 14,000 teu and above.

Dekker says the big question for the market is where are these ships going to be deployed?

Given the limited number of gaps for large containerships of 14,000 teu, he believes a probable “dumping ground” may be the trades between Asia and the Middle East.
