Competition authorities have today raided the South African subsidiaries of six shipping lines.

Hamburg Sud, Maersk Line, Safmarine, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Pacific International Line (PIL) and CMA CGM are suspected of fixing rates from Asia to South Africa, according to a statement from South Africa’s Competition Commission.

It said the operation was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation which was initiated by the Commission based on information from a member of the public.
