Japan's Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has revealed it has produced a potential source of energy from microplastics collected from the ocean by one of its bulk carriers.
The shipowner has been working with green coalition Eco Trinity, led by research and development company Novelgen, on the project.
MOL said carbon products with an energy potential similar to wood pellets have been developed from the plastic waste and microalgae.
