The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) has said seafarers should not be involved in lashing operations, after a crewman was killed in Ireland.

Dennis Gomez Regana, from the Philippines, died after a container struck him at Southbank Quay on Wednesday.

He was doing lashing work on Bartels Reederei's 822-teu Francop (built 2003).

ITF maritime coordinator Jacqueline Smith said: "Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and fellow crew members of Dennis Gomez Regana.
