An explosion has claimed the lives of two workers who were dismantling a Carnival Corp cruiseship at Aliaga Metas Ship Breaking in Turkey.

According to recycling lobby group NGO Shipbreaking Platform, 55-year-old Yilmaz Demir and 30-year-old Olguz Taskin, were caught in an engine room fire while dismantling the 70,400-gt Carnival Inspiration (built 1996).

Demir died at the scene, while Taskin later died of his injuries in hospital.
