New Caledonia has finally approved a project to remove the wreck of a Lomar Shipping containership off the rocks — two-and-a-half years after it grounded.

The 2,194-teu Kea Trader (built 2017) was brand new at the time of the incident in July 2017. Since then, it has been the subject of protracted wreck-removal discussions between the New Caledonia government, owner Lomar, and protection and indemnity insurer Skuld.
