A fire has been reported on a Ray Car Carriers (RCC) vessel off France.

The blaze broke out on Sunday on the 3,877-ceu vehicle carrier RCC Passion (built 2011), French authorities said, according to Le Telegramme.

The vessel was 74 km west of Ouessant Island at the time.

It has 18 crew on board, and a cargo of 2,195 vehicles.

France sent 12 firefighters and a tug to the scene.

They reported back that crew had taken action to combat the fire and that no injuries were sustained, but there was significant smoke in the engine room.
