Saudi Arabia has claimed that an “explosive-laden boat” caused the blast aboard a Hafnia LR1 tanker.
The 76,600-dwt BW Rhine (built 2008) was discharging a cargo of gasoline at the Red Sea port of Jeddah when the incident occurred early on Monday.
Singapore shipowner Hafnia said in a statement on Monday that the ship was “hit from an external source” resulting in damage to a water ballast tank and cargo tank on the port side.
