Delay insurance providers say clients have already started to issue claims related to the grounding of an Evergreen Marine-operated ultra large containership in the Suez Canal.
Following the grounding of the 20,388-teu Ever Given (built 2018), Will Robinson, managing director of strike and delay at the Standard Club, said: “We have already had notifications of delays. This is exactly this sort of situation that strike and delay insurance is intended to cover.”
Delay insurance is usually provided to owners and charterers based on a pre-agreed fixed daily indemnity figure that covers charter hire or operating costs.
