Kuwait has barred vessels carrying Israeli cargoes from its waters.

The Middle East state, a staunch opponent of Israel, made the announcement on Saturday, according to domestic newspaper Al Anba.

Kuwaiti public works minister Rana Abdullah Al-Fares was cited as saying no ship carrying goods to and from Israel will be allowed in.

The order prohibits entry even if the cargo is not due to be unloaded in Kuwait but bound for other countries.
