Large containerships have been one of this year’s success stories.
Rates for 8,500-teu vessels have risen to more than $30,000 per day and values are up by one-third.
That has filtered down into the traditional panamax sector, where rates are 50% higher than at the start of the year and values are also on the rise.
Last week, rates for a 4,250-teu containership reached around $14,600 per day for periods of 12 months and 24 months, according to the New ConTex Index.
